  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Filling

  • Montequilla Hondurena Crema

DIRECTIONS

If you really want to create tortilla from scratch for your Baleada, then read on. If not, just skip to the last paragraph where you’ll be slathering your Baleada with some good refried beans…

Mix all ingredients (flour, water, vegetable oil, egg, and salt) in a large bowl. Knead dough until smooth and doesn’t have sticky texture.

Form dough into 8 balls (golf size preferable). Cover bowl and let dough rest, now during  the 20 minutes you are waiting you can go for a cig. break (which we have to tell you that smoking is bad or you can read up on a travel story.

Now, stretch a ball of dough into a thick tortilla.

Heat large skillet, medium-high heat. Cook each tortilla, about a minute each side, until browned.

Now that you are done with your tortillas simply slather a layer of refried beans, some avocado, and queso fresco over tortillas. Drizzle crema (Montequilla Hondurena) on top, fold tortillas in half over filling and lift to your mouth and eat up! Enjoy your baleadas.
