Salinas is one of the most popular beaches on Ecuador’s Rutal del Sol…though I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s due to its close proximity to Guayaquil. Or it could be attributed to all of the opportunities to consume. For the younger crowd, there’s a “see and be seen” feel in the air, whether it be in one of the overpriced restaurants or in a fancy high-rise hotel or family beach house.
For a traveler, Salinas is definitely worth a miss. The area of sand not covered in sharp, broken seashells is small. The good sand is completely covered with families, toys, and propaganda from local companies. Not even the sunset is visible from the small horseshoe.
If you’re yearning for a chilled out beach scene, look elsewhere.
